Presentation of various lip treatments

Lips are for kissing. Presentation of different lip injections.

Influencers, beauty bloggers and celebrities have turned them into hype: full, splashed lips that make the dream of the perfect kissable mouth a reality. The news reaches from Berlin to London to Hollywood how gentle, simple and gentle lip injections are. The minimally invasive procedure, which is booming in beauty studios, with aesthetic doctors and in beauty salons, should be safe, quick and painless. Basically, the treatment is not necessarily about building up the maximum volume of the lip body - goals can also be to model the lip curve, improve lip red and suppleness or optimize the shape of the corner of the mouth. Instead of inflatable boat-like lips, a natural look is required these days that matches the individual face shape of the patient. To achieve this, experienced doctors and qualified alternative practitioners start gently with little volume, and then work their way up syringe after syringe to the desired result. It is important that the proportions of the lips are observed. The common formula is that the lower lip should be twice the size of the upper lip. This creates a particularly harmonious impression that is beautiful, friendly and inviting.

Overview of different lip injections

As we have already heard, lip injections are not only suitable for building up the volume of the lip body - they can also be used to model the curvature of the lips, to improve lip red and suppleness or to optimize the shape of the corner of the mouth. For example, the upper lip or the Cupid's bow can be perfectly accentuated. Even fine lines on the lips that form with age can be tightened. Depending on the treatment goal and desire, there are different types of lip injections with filling materials that are either absorbable or synthetic. Most doctors and naturopaths, however, rely on absorbable fillers, which experience has shown to be far more tolerable. The methods are briefly presented below.

Lip build-up with fat injection

Anyone who wants more volume, for example because he or she suffers from flat lips, can opt for lip augmentation with fat injection. The body's own fat is used, which is injected into the lips to plump them up from the inside out. Since it is the body's own filler material, it is generally very well tolerated. Before doing this, a small amount of fat is sucked off from the buttocks, stomach or thighs, which is then processed. This procedure is accompanied by small punctures, bruises and bruises. Lip augmentation with fat injection makes sense because of the high effort involved, especially if liposuction is planned anyway.

Lipofilling with collagen

Another type of lip augmentation is the application of a collagen solution to plump the lips. In this way, the tissue can be given more volume, which is visually noticeable. In most cases, the filler used contains the anesthetic lidocaine to make the procedure as painless as possible. Additional anesthesia is therefore not necessary. A treatment usually lasts between 15 and 60 minutes.

Lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid

This is probably the most popular type of lip Increase. This probably also has to do with the fact that lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid not only creates a volume build-up of the lip body - it is also possible to model the lip curvature, to improve lip red and suppleness or to optimize the shape of the corner of the mouth. By and large, treatment of the entire mouth area is conceivable. As part of the injection, a hyaluronic acid gel is used that is broken down by the patient's body over time. So the result is not permanent. The use of blunt needles ensures that the procedure is as gentle as possible. Usually the result achieved lasts between six and twelve months. The procedure can then be repeated if desired. Lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid generally gives a very natural result that doesn't feel artificial. Because hyaluronic acid is very well tolerated, allergies and intolerance reactions rarely occur.

As already mentioned, most doctors and alternative practitioners nowadays resort to absorbable filling materials. In contrast, synthetic filling materials like Metacrill, which are basically nothing other than silicone, are not considered to be recommended. Among other things, this has to do with the fact that the substance does not break down in the patient's body over time, which is why its tolerance is very controversial. Plastics such as silicone oil are also rarely used, although their compatibility is generally considered to be better. Artecoll and Dermalive are other fillers that have been used for lip injections in the past. That has changed in the meantime: Experienced doctors and qualified alternative practitioners generally reject synthetic substances because they are often viewed as foreign bodies by the patient's body. Because they are not absorbable, in the worst case they can cause problems for the body for years. For example, foreign body granulomas can form that can only be removed during surgery. As a result, such procedures for lip augmentation are rarely offered any more.

Many different types of lip injections now exist. There is no such thing as one perfect filler - the choice of filler material depends on the patient's individual needs. In general, lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid is highly recommended because it is a natural substance that the human body produces itself. Innovative products such as Stylage or Restylane impress with their high tolerance during and after the treatment. Whether with crosslinked or non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid: Depending on the patient's needs, there are very individual solutions, the effect of which is variable, for example in terms of their effect or durability. The right selection and perfect injection should therefore only be carried out by an experienced doctor or qualified alternative practitioner. A large repertoire of injection techniques is an important prerequisite for being able to respond satisfactorily to the patient's wishes - for lips that are made to be kissed.
